Teacher : Peggy Pierrot

This course focuses on the relationship between communication, culture, media and social stratification. It will provide an opportunity for a historical examination of media and mirror theorizations, as well as an examination through the prism of contemporary human sciences.

The course will present key concepts from various historical theoretical currents dealing with mediacultures and communication, relating them to current approaches that take account of social, technological and research developments. History and theory of media. Links between media systems, culture, economics and social organization. Information and culture as a locus of power and an issue of power. Media-cultures and cultural studies. Current sociology of social stratification. Social interactions and communication. For an anthropology of communication.
