History and current events in the arts / Decolonial approach
De erg
Teachers: Flavio Ferreira Orzari, Peggy Pierrot, Carolina Serra
The aim of this course is to introduce students to decolonial studies, a field that unfolds throughout students' Bachelor's and Master's years. To this end, the course initiates a process that is in keeping with the idea of a pedagogy of the gaze, enabling us to delve deeper into the various artistic, literary and critical forms of non-European artistic experience.
Through texts, discussions and observation of the work of non-hegemonic artists, this course will propose a broadening of fields of reference and ways of questioning the artistic and theoretical practices of all, i.e. a pedagogical space for looking at cultural and artistic forms differently, in particular to rethink the classical Eurocentric relationship of establishing the field of cultural and artistic references.
By the end of the course, students will be able to sharpen their gaze on non-European cultural and artistic forms, questioning the colonial narratives that operate invisibly in the classical "Western" way of making art.
