Dissertation: Writing and oral defense of the dissertation

The dissertation is a requirement for the specialized, didactic or in-depth Master's degree. The thesis requires the author to take a critical distance. It responds to a problematized research approach and the need for reflexivity in relation to the student's own practice.

The dissertation is based on a problematic proposed by the student, then discussed and agreed upon with his or her promoter, a teacher at the erg. A variety of language practices and writing and presentation strategies may be employed. There are no predetermined formal requirements for the dissertation. Its form will necessarily be designed in line with the chosen problematic. By way of exception, in the case of an in-depth Master's degree, students must comply with the requirements for a dissertation as defined by the promoter's university.

Evaluation criteria are defined as follows

- Relevance of the problem to practice,

- The author's commitment to the chosen field of reflection,

- Positioning and uniqueness of approach,

- Relevance of the memoir's relationship to the world,

- Appropriation of language relevant to the problematic,

- Breadth and consistency of reflection in relation to the problematic,

- Appropriateness of the problematic and its form,

- Compliance with minimum standards in terms of readability, structure, referencing of sources and citations
