Visible. Bureau et espace de projet est heureux d'annoncer son nouveau programme Art as something else, organisé à 50 ° 49'19.50N 4 ° 21'25.53E galerie de l'erg (école supérieure des arts, Bruxelles), qui examine les pratiques artistiques socialement engagées dans un contexte mondial. Ce programme ' s’articule autour de sujets considérés comme les fils rouges au sein des pratiques artistiques soutenues par Visible depuis sa fondation en 2010. Expositions, conférences, tables rondes, projets en résidence, projections et autres activités donneront lieu à une plate-forme discursive établie en dialogue avec les artistes, commissaires, chercheurs, invités, étudiants et enseignants de l’erg et publics bruxellois. En parallèle, le 2015 Visible Award public jury, présidé par Chris Dercon (directeur à Tate Modern, Londres) sera organisé et accueilli par la Tate Liverpool à l'automne de l'année prochaine.

 

La première session du programme, On Pedagogy, ' qui débute le jeudi 6 novembre à 18h30, est dédiée aux nouveaux modèles pédagogiques initiés par des artistes contemporains. 

Inspirée principalement par le projet The Silent University, récipiendaire du 2013 Visible Award et initiée par l'artiste kurde de Turquie Ahmet Ögüt, cette première plate-forme vise à établir une connexion plus profonde avec l’école d'art qui accueille Visible. Bureau et espace de projet, en engageant des discussions à partir de modèles éducatifs existants. 

Dans le cadre de l'ouverture de On Pedagogy, la première des trois conversations avec des artistes ayant initié récemment des plates-formes pédagogiques comme projets artistiques se tiendra le 6 novembre à 19h avec la participation de Emily Fahlen, coordinatrice de la Silent University à Stockholm et Jonas Staal, artiste et fondateur de la New World Academy.

 

The Silent University (fondée en 2012), conçue comme un module d’orientation - incluant un riche fond de vidéos et textes - est une plate-forme autonome d'échange de connaissances, dirigée par des réfugiés, demandeurs d'asile ou migrants qui bien qu'ayant eu une activité professionnelle et une formation universitaire dans leur pays d'origine, ne peuvent exercer leurs activités ou mettre en valeur leurs compétences pour des raisons diverses liées à leur statut. Actuellement, les trois campus de The Silent University, situés à Londres, Stockholm et Hambourg, fonctionnent grâce au soutien de différentes institutions artistiques telles que la Delfina Fondation, The Showroom, Tensta Konsthall, ABF Stockholm, Stadtkuratorin Hambourg, et W3 - Werkstatt für Internationale Kultur und Politik, en collaboration avec plusieurs ONG, et grâce au travail des coordinateurs/trices qui maintiennent un réseau d'enseignants et de consultants activé par la production d'événements, de rencontres et de nouvelles réflexions sur le projet. 

Le programme mise en place par Visible. Bureau et espace de projet propose un dispositif de la Silent University, sorte de bureau fonctionnant comme un espace de travail où l'idée d'une branche bruxelloise de l'université sera envisagée et discutée, en dialogue avec des associations locales de demandeurs d'asile et de réfugiés et des organisations de la société civile.

 

 

Actif depuis 2010 comme institution immatérielle qui encourage et soutient des pratiques artistiques socialement engagées dans un contexte mondialisé, Visible est un projet de recherche artistique initié par Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto en collaboration avec la Fondation Zegna, consacré aux œuvres d'art intervenant dans le domaine social. Il est dirigé par les commissaires Matteo Lucchetti et Judith Wielander.

 

Depuis 2011, Visible décerne un prix – le premier de ce genre en Europe – récompensant des pratiques artistiques engagées sur le plan social et développe un travail de recherche sur les espaces physiques et théoriques dans lesquels ces pratiques peuvent affecter nos sociétés contemporaines, avec une attention particulière sur l'interdisciplinarité croissante de l'art dans divers contextes sociaux. Institution nomade, Visible fut hébergée sous différentes formes par un grand nombre d'institutions artistiques, notamment le Van Abbemuseum d'Eindhoven ; la Kunsthaus de Graz ; la Kadist Art Foundation de San Francisco ; le Center for Historical Reenactments de Johannesburg ou encore la Serpentine Gallery de Londres – autant d'institutions avec lesquelles Visible a développé différents types de collaborations. Visible fait partie de ENPAP (European Network of Public Art Producers), un réseau créé en 2009 par Situations, University of the West of England (Bristol / Royaume Uni) et Statens Konstråd/Public Art Agency (Stockholm / Suède).

Visible. Office and Project space is pleased to announce its new program hosted at 50°49'19.50N 4°21'25.53E galerie de l'erg (école supérieure des arts, Brussels) looking at socially engaged artistic practices in a global context titled Art as something else. The program will unfold focusing on main overarching topics recognized as some of the existing red threads within the artists practices supported by and connected to the Visible project since its inception in 2010. Exhibitions, lectures, round table talks, project in residency, screenings and other activities will give form to the discursive platform that the Visible project would like to establish in dialogue with artists, curators, guests, erg's students, teachers, researchers, staff, and Brussels audiences, while developing the 2015 Visible Award public jury, chaired by Chris Dercon (Tate Modern director, London) and hosted by Tate Liverpool in the fall of next year.

 

The first session of the program, On Pedagogy, is dedicated to new pedagogical models initiated by contemporary artists, and will open on Thursday 6 November at 6:30pm. 

Mainly inspired by The Silent University project — recipient of the 2013 Visible Award — initiated by Kurdish artist from Turkey Ahmet Ögüt, this first platform aims at creating a deeper connection with the art academy that is hosting the Visible. Office and Project space, activating discussions from the perspective of existing educational models. 

On the opening night we will host the first of three conversations with artists who have started educational platforms as artistic projects in recent times. The panel will feature Emily Fahlen, Stockholm Silent University coordinator and Jonas Staal, artist and initiator of the New World Academy.

 

The Silent University, founded in 2012, is presented as an orientation module, where a display rich with video and textual materials, elaborating this autonomous knowledge exchange platform led by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, who have had a professional life and academic training in their home countries, but are unable to use their skills or professional training due to a variety of reasons related to their status. Currently there are three campuses of the Silent University, operating in London, Stockholm, and Hamburg. Each campus runs thanks to the support of different art institutions, such as Delfina Foundation, The Showroom, Tensta Konsthall, ABF Stockholm, Stadtkuratorin Hamburg, and W3 – Werkstatt für internationale Kultur und Politik in collaboration with several NGOs, and the work of the coordinators, who keep the network of lecturers and consultants alive by producing events, meetings and new reflections on the project. 

During the yearlong program, the Silent University office display will function as a working space where the idea of a Brussels branch of the school will be envisioned and discussed, involving local asylum seekers and refugee associations together with civic society organisations. 

 

Visible is a research project in contemporary art devoted to art work in the social sphere, operating since 2010 as an immaterial institution that aims to produce and sustain socially engaged artistic practices in a global context. Visible is a project undertaken by Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto in collaboration with Fondazione Zegna, curated by Matteo Lucchetti and Judith Wielander.

 

Visible produces the first European award for socially engaged artistic practices since 2011, and researches on the the physical and theoretical spaces in which these practices can affect our contemporary societies, focusing on the expanding interdisciplinarity of art and its practitioners within diverse social contexts. As a nomadic institution Visible has been hosted, through different formats and collaborations, by a large number of art institutions, such as Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven ; Kunsthaus, Graz ; Kadist Art Foundation, San Francisco ; Center for Historical Reenactments, Johannesburg ; The Serpentine Gallery, London and others. Recently Visible has become part of ENPAP (European Network of Public Art Producers), a network initiated in 2009 by Situations, University of the West of England (Bristol/ United Kingdom) and Statens Konstråd/Public Art Agency (Stockholm/Sweden).
