Master art practice, critical tools / Art and Simultaneous Contexts The “Art Practice – Critical Tools” Master questions the practice of art in a time where contexts and references become fragmented and simultaneous. Artists are now able to invent and question the conditions of emergence of their own practice. Artistic practices do not refer to a single, unified art history, but to diverse and external contexts: sociopo-litical, philosophical, scientific or historical as much as artistic. This Master is conceived for students wishing to further their personal artistic practice by developing a reflection on the stakes and the contexts of art. The AP is a place devoted to research, experimentation, reflection and exchange in relation to the stakes attached to artistic practices and to the various forms of mediation. The workshop offers a rich program, including meetings with visiting guests, various visits (museums, art centers, artists’ studios, etc.), ensures a follow-up on the development of the student’s practice linked with the orientation teachers and the general courses, and provides workshops centered on the conditions of reception of a work of art.

Master narrations and experimentation / Speculative Narration This Master is devoted to the research, elaboration and production of narratives that account for and transform our world – the narrative as a propositional agency, as a creation of a universe giving birth to new relations with the world. Our ways of narrating reality are as many means of transforming it. Students following this Master will progressively develop and elaborate an original, personal narrative practice while working on its completion and its diffusion outside the school. The multidisciplinary workshop is the privileged place for those interrogations. It is a space for production and encounters whose dynamics focuses on the exchange and the merging of practices, on specific courses dedicated to the analysis of contemporary narrative forms, on practices that echo and confront each other to nourish the productions of every student. There, each student will also articulate and formulate his / her own singular universe, and their productions will be discussed according to the degree’s specific research axis, articulated around the notion of speculation. The AP hosts throughout the year a seminar around this notion and establishes collaborations with socio-cultural institutions (Sciences Po, la Monnaie, BNA/BBOT, Oxfam…) aiming at dissemination in public spaces through publishing, exhibitions…

Masters graphic politics and experimentation The “Graphic Politics and Experimentation” degree proposes two distinct Masters :

  • Editorial Design / erg.edit : Politics of the Multiple
  • Graphic Practices and Scientific Complexity

Editorial Design / erg.edit : Politics of the Multiple The growing number of diffusion platforms has generated a great diversity of content mediation processes. Languages, forms and materials are evolving, adapting themselves to the multimodal sources of information access. The goal of this graphic mediation Masters is to involve students in a research project centered on the issues of editorial mediation, to be considered, in a plural sense, in relation to the practices, and, in a cross-linking sense, in relation to referential fields. Here, we will favor editorial intention over its formatting. Individually, each student will progressively define and delimit a specific research field where they will elaborate a work that is both critical (questioning the state of the issue) and artistic (delivering a production). Each project will also interrogate its own conditions of reception and of diffusion while trying to implement them.

Graphic Practices and Scientific Complexity Students will be acquainted to a scientific research work, a database of ideas, points of view and experiments linked with the scientific, technological, economical and biological fields. They will elaborate, produce and present a personal, autonomously defined work, formulating its criteria and its stakes, articulating the links between the model of study and the applications developed via work hypotheses, conceptual and visual procedures… Every year, the Master “Graphic Practices and Scientific complexity” selects one or several specific themes to be developed with partners chosen for their relevance and their advanced knowledge in the field of study. They will present then explain – and eventually correct – the database with researchers and chosen partners. The educational interest stems from the gap separating students from scientific language, procedures and models.
