Eleanor Ivory Weber

E. Ivory Weber is an Australian essayist and artist living in Brussels. Since 2018 s-he teaches art theory and critical practice at Erg (École de recherche graphique–école supérieure des arts), and is co-director of the literary press Divided.

Ivory Weber holds a Master in Political Philosophy and Theory from Université Libre de Bruxelles, a Post-Master from a.pass (advanced performance and scenography studies) in Brussels, and a BA with First Class Honours in Art History & Theory from the University of Sydney. S-he is the 2022 recipient of the Flanders State of the Arts—Residency Unlimited artistic residency in New York City.

Working in time-based media (performance, sound, text), his artistic work includes 'No Private Problems' (Alma Sarif, Brussels), 'The mouth is a clock without hands' (Kunstverein München), 'Supply and Supply' (Maison Pelgrims/SB34, Brussels), 'Word without return' (w/ camille gérenton, ISELP, Brussels), 'Smog' (Établissement d’en face, Brussels), 'Christine Villemin' (Buenos Tiempos, Int., Brussels) and 'No Private Problems' (M.I/mi1glissé, Berlin).

Her writing has been published in periodicals Afterall, Dissect, frieze, How to Sleep Faster, How to Become a Lesbian, Jacket2, Meanjin, SALT., This Container, ROT, Le Chauffage, and for catalogues published by Museum Abteiberg, Bâtard Festival, Kunstverein Nürnberg and Art Gallery of New South Wales.

I am an artist and political philosopher interested in psychoanalysis, anachronism and the intellectual tradition of pessimism. I am lecturer in art history, theory and critical practice at Erg (École de recherche graphique–école supérieure des arts), Brussels, and co-director of Divided Publishing, Brussels and London. I hold a Master de spécialisation en Philosophie et Théorie Politiques from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and completed Post-Master studies at a.pass (advanced performance and scenography studies), Posthogeschool voor Podiumkunst, both Brussels. I received first class Honours in Art History & Theory from The University of Sydney.
